Stair way to heaven

Went with a friend last nigh to see Rodrigo Y Gabriela at the ABC in Glasgow. Last time I was in the ABC was when it was still a cinema!

The venue was great, although given Rodrigo and Gabriela sit to play and I'm a little on the short side I had to stand on tip toes to try and see. The crowd was a strange mix, young and old, a lot of students and a smattering of heavy metal fans. Now it might surprise you to have HM fans at a gig of a guy and a lass playing acoustic guitar, but R & G were part of a thrash metal band before doing what they do now and this has influenced their style and some of the songs they cover.

It was a great night's music. The music was full of energy, joy, passion. For me Gabriela was the star of the show. Rodrigo does most of the finger work with Gabriela using her guitar as a drum as much as anything else. I've never seen anyone play a guitar like she did and the variety of sounds she got out it was incredible. Below is a clip of one of their songs & if you get a chance to see these guys live then do it. (Word of warning they still speak as if they were in a thrash metal band!).
